This example shows how Recipe Portion Studio calculates nutrition for a weighed portion. It's a worked example, not an interactive demo or a screenshot of the app.

The ingredient nutrition below is made up to show the calculation. It isn't a nutrition reference for real oats, yogurt, or berries, and the mixture isn't a tested recipe.

Unknown values stay unknown. If you leave sodium blank for one ingredient, the recipe's sodium result is marked incomplete. That doesn't prevent the app from calculating other nutrients whose values are complete.

Build the recipe

This recipe uses 200 g of the example oat base, 300 g of example yogurt, and 100 g of example berries. For each nutrient, multiply its reference value by the amount used divided by the reference amount.

Example oat base energy = 400 kcal × (200 g ÷ 100 g) = 800 kcal

Whole recipe energy = 800 + 180 + 50 = 1,030 kcal

Weigh the finished batch

Enter a measured finished weight of 650 g for this example. That is a separate input from the 600 g of listed ingredients. For this fictional calculation, assume the extra 50 g is water added during preparation, with no nutrients included in the example.

The app doesn't predict that finished weight or add water for you. In your own recipe, weigh the finished food without the container and record that value. If you haven't weighed it yet, you can save the recipe and add the weight later.

This method assumes all entered ingredient nutrients remain in the finished batch. It doesn't account for discarded cooking liquid, drained fat, uneaten bones, or nutrient changes during cooking. Match your reference values to the ingredient state you use.

Choose a 130 g portion

A 130 g portion is 130 ÷ 650, or one fifth, of this batch. Multiply each whole-recipe nutrient by that fraction.

Portion energy = 1,030 kcal × (130 g ÷ 650 g) = 206 kcal

Portion protein = 33 g × (130 g ÷ 650 g) = 6.6 g

Setting 5 intended servings gives the same result here, because each equal serving is 130 g. You can also choose a different portion weight without changing the recipe or its serving count.

Plan two portions

Two 130 g portions need 260 g of finished food. Together, they contain 412 kcal, 13.2 g protein, 58 g carbohydrate, 12.2 g fat, 7.6 g fiber, and 52.4 mg sodium using these fictional values.

The plan rounds the cooking requirement up to 1 whole 650 g batch. That leaves 390 g beyond the planned portions. Its ingredient prep list calls for the full batch's 200 g oat base, 300 g yogurt, and 100 g berries. Planned nutrition covers the two portions, not the whole batch.
